August Edition - The Monitor
by Tanya Hale, Founder
Dinwiddie County is an amazing place to live and work! As we participated in the Dinwiddie County Fair, the warmth (not talking the temperature!) of Dinwiddie came out. Vendors helping vendors as storms approached and eventually hit, causing major destruction to the Dinwiddie County Fair Setup. Village Shed Store opened their display doors to house vendor booth contents from more than three different businesses, keeping items safe and secure through two nights of storms. Businesses shared equipment, display items, manpower and so much more. Seeing everyone come together for a common goal was/is so heartwarming. Dinwiddie businesses see the value of working together to accomplish so much more than the bottom line, realizing that the bottom line comes; often through the giving of themselves in other ways. Time, manpower, smiles, all of these and so much more create a great place to work and live!
Our community should look around at these businesses that share and are always there, giving and lending a helping hand! Many of these businesses are Chamber Members and actively volunteering for Chamber events that enhance their community. Though these businesses are small in many cases, they struggle to keep prices low so that county residents will buy here in the county, versus going outside the county to spend their dollar. As a business owner, we try to keep our business dollars within the county wherever possible. When you factor in the fuel to go elsewhere, how much do we really save going outside the county? These are principles and foundations that we acknowledge and share with our Chamber Members regularly and hope that our county residents see the value as well.
Thanks to our community and registrations at the Annual Dinwiddie County Christmas Parade, two of our 2010 Dinwiddie High School students; Katie Mohn, daughter of Cari C. Simmons and Ronald K. Mohn and Carly Winfield, daughter of Gordon and Christine Winfield have be awarded Chamber Scholarships. The money from the Parade goes directly/solely to fund these scholarships each year! The 2011 Dinwiddie County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade theme will be announced soon. We will be creating a Facebook page this year as well for everyone to follow the progress, acquire registration forms and so much more! Watch for our announcement soon, or simply keep typing in Dinwiddie Christmas Parade to check in on our progress!!!
There is so much more to be done...join your chamber in getting more done in Dinwiddie County! If you are a business, VOLUNTEER!
